The Grid

I am beginning the process of designing my portfolio, and I figure I should do it right this time.
The last few portfolios were not well designed, it was just throwing some photos on a page, drawing some lines around them and deciding that this was the 'best look'. However, this time I want to actually put some thought behind the layout, which is one of the most important features.

While brainstorming I have come upon an idea that I just can't shake, The Grid. The city grid, the streets and plots of land that create the footprint of the city.
I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate this into my lay out, to be both modern and functional. The more i imagine the better off I'll be.

Then comes the question, which city's footprint should I use? or should I design a new one that's never been seen? Maybe use a different one on each page? Maybe just use an abstract grid.... oh the possibilities.

One Million Acts of Kindness

http://www.onemillionactsofkindness.com

A few days ago, while I was at work, I came across a big blue and white sticker with the image of a dove and a website around it. This intrigued me so I turned the sticker over and on the back there was this websites mission statement:
"One Million Acts Of Kindness is a goal. A goal for each person to individually perform One Million Acts Of Kindness in their life. Can you imagine a greater goal for one’s life? It is a constant mind-set of kindness every day of your life for the next fifty-five years. Doing for others and kindness in your heart for everyone. It is my wish that you will dedicate your life to a charity… finding the passion in your heart for something or someone in need."

After reading this I got to thinking, why can't we do this? Why don't we all try to do just one 'act of kindness' a day? The world would be a much better place, and this man has a great mission!

While I personally haven't done anything spectacular lately for others, I am definitely more aware and am finding myself starting to notice there are a good deal of deeds we can do in one day that we never even notice, or think about.

Some Examples:
-When someone forgets their umbrella say 'excuse me' and give it back, they will appreciate it.
-Hold the elevator for someone
-Bake something and give it out to your friends and loved ones
-Simply saying 'Bless you' after a sneeze

If you do some small things like these you'll be rewarded with a smile and maybe a new friend.

Upbeat Profanities

Although this song may be filled with profanities, the beat, the tune sucked me in.

F**k You

SF, My next lover

Dear San Franciso,

One day in the future when New York and I break up, I think you will be my next lover.
I need to know more about you, and your neighborhoods, your culture, and your life.
You are so beautiful from the outside, yet the inside is a stranger to me.
San Francisco, we will meet again down the road.

Levi's

The jeans of my youth.

They seem to be making a come back, or at least have more creative appealing ads this season.

I remember a time when I would only wear levi's, and all other jeans were off limits.
Then somehow it seemed that other cheaper jeans were better, and the levi's made their way out of my collection.
Well this year the Levi's are back.
They even have a new design out specifically for curvy women, which most of us are.

Yeah for the come back!

Shopping Galore!

It seems these days I stay home to try to save money, but I end up spending a good portion of my days shopping online (rather than working on my Grad School Apps or GRE :( ).

I have found some great deals though!

If you have the money or time, right now is a great time to shop, a good deal of summer clothes are on sale and very cheap; as well as most websites seem to have huge sales going on.

Below are some of my favorite looks of "right now" as well as some items that are on my "wish list for the Fall"

1. Nine West - Vanished $109
Oxfords are super cute, I've wanted a pair for the past year or 2 and I think maybe this fall I will finally spend the money.

2. Kate Moss
Apparently she wore this outfit in the spring, but I think it is a great Fall outfit.
Maybe even if it were paired with some Oxfords :)

3. Reese Witherspoon
Simple & Classy
Anyone can wear this, its simple but looks so nice, you can wear it just about anywhere.

Whole Foods

Grocery shopping, well shopping in general, is one of my favorite pass times.
All the beautiful fruit and veggies, all the meats, the cheeses, the nuts, the juice...
So many possibilities in one place.

One of my favorite parts of my new apartment is the fact that I can go grocery shopping at Whole Foods. This whole foods is not only in a great location, but it has 2 stories. The upper deck even has a bridge from one side to the other (which is where I took this photo).

If you are ever shopping at Whole Foods, and need a recommendation for a snack I recommend anything 'Annie's brand' and the Whole Foods Hummus with pretzels, YUM!
