Frank what were you thinking?

Today I took a trip over the Brooklyn Bridge, when we got to the other side we found this beauty...
The New Frank Gehry building is less than exciting. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Its quite awkward.

Below is the Building.

What is a Philosopher?

There was an article in the NY Times today and while I haven't had the time to read the complete article yet (I'm in the middle of school finals) what I have read thus far has been interesting.

My Day - Spent with JJ

The day started with a lovely brunch consisting of an omelet (egg, mushroom, tomato, and fontina cheese), bacon, home fries (the best ever!) and a Proseco mimosa; all created by JJ.

Shortly after we left the house on a mission to walk around the city, we weren't sure where we would end up in the end but that is part of the fun. Our first stop was for coffee (shocker) followed by a trip to Central Park.
In the park we found a street fair occurring, as well as the start of some type of a military/armed forces parade. We took a stroll through the park, walking from the Upper East Side (UES) to the Upper West Side (UWS).
Once we reached the UWS we decided that the mission of the day would be to find some new clothes, so we began to walk South where we presumed there would be more shopping. Before we had entered any store JJ ran into some people he knew, Mr. & Mrs. Mack. We talked to them as we crossed the street and then entered the first of many retail shops.

We went to the Armani Store in Midtown West because (from the outside) we were interested in the staircase in the middle of their space.
Once we experienced the stair, we realized that it was not functional. It was a piece of art that someone threw a staircase in, the stair awkwardly transitioned from wide to thin and back again, the hand rail was peculiar and the color was almost, but not quite white. It reminded me of my experience as a child on the 'crooked mile' located in the Sacramento Zoo/Fairy Tale Town, only with stairs rather than a smooth surface to walk on.
The remainder of the stores we entered were not as interactive as this one, but they were none the less interesting.

We made our way to Rockefeller Center where we entered into St. Patrick's Cathedral, located at 51st & 5th Ave.
This church was beautiful inside, this was also the location where the current pope (Pope Benedict) spoke shortly after his appointment to the papacy. JJ Pointed out to me that across the street is located a statue of a man holding up the world in his hands
This creates an interesting play of God vs man. Fascinating.

This was followed by a trip to Bryant Park, where we had delicious sandwiches from 'Wich Craft' along with a nice lunch in the park. Followed by a subway ride to the West Village.
I love the villages; East, West, & Greenwich. They are all unique and different then one another, although if I had to pick I think I would choose East. Reasonably affordable, character, diversity and all together a fun atmosphere.

Our trip to the village was fun, yet not successful in the search for clothing.
After we had given up on the search for clothes we decided to stop at a local favorite 'The Blind Tiger', located at Bleeker & Jones St, for a beer.

While we were not hungry, the food looked and smelled so delicious that we decided this is a must for our next food outing.

After our adventures in the West Village we made our way to the East Village, where we stumbled upon St. George's Ukrainian Festival. We watched dancing, saw homemade crafts, and ate some delicious potato filled dumplings. This was my first time experiencing Ukrainian food, but I doubt it will be my last. I have been told the festival lasts one week, and I intend on returning before the week's end.

After another 30 minute long search we decided it was time to head home to work on homework and make dinner.
Dinner consisted of pasta in a tomato red wine sauce with Parmesan to top it off, delicious!

All in all we spent a good 6 hours walking, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Great day spent with JJ & CJ.

Matthew Baird Design - Town House

I've seen this townhouse time after time while walking through Chelsea in NYC, today I found out who the designer was.
The only problem I have with this is that I cannot find information on what it looks like inside; the designers website is not very helpful in that. None the less it is a beautiful design.

Location:
Greenwich Street, between Horatio and Gansevoort
Manhattan, NY

Urban Town House - by Peter Gluck

I found this design today, Urban Town House, and thought it was great.
The front facade is made of a metal, with brick sized cut outs, as to mimic its brick neighbors.
Behind the front facade of the house is an entire wall of bookshelves (my favorite part), followed by the staircase behind that, and the living space next. This order makes the home more private, and gives it a unique characteristic.

It is located on E 51st St in Manhattan.
